Hello DATA Family,
We wanted to make you aware that next Wednesday, October 30th, we will be releasing students at 1:22. This is due to a mandatory Suicide Training (QPR) for all staff. We apologize for the inconvenience. There will be NO flex next Wednesday, so the first class starts at 8am and there will be no advisory. Please remind your children of this and attempt to get them here before 8am, please.
Below is an explanation of the training from our counselor, Ms. Reeder,
“All DATA students and staff will be trained as certified QPR Gatekeepers in the coming weeks. QPR (Question-Persuade-Refer) is a program designed to reduce the risk of suicide. QPR is not a form of counseling or treatment, rather it is intended to offer hope through positive action. By learning QPR, you will come to recognize the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communications of people in trouble, and gain skills to act vigorously to prevent a tragedy. Much like CPR or the Heimlich maneuver, the fundamentals of QPR are easily learned. As with CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, the use of QPR may save a life.
If you have any additional questions, or are interested in receiving QPR at a parent-specific training, please contact Ms Reeder at Kristin.Reeder@datacharter.org.”
