DESIGN & DRAFTING I

Course Description

Students will learn the foundations of Design Theory and graphic techniques applied to Architecture, Graphic Design and Art. They will develop knowledge of Architectural theory and historic Architectural styles. Software programs will include AutoCAD for 2D drafting, SketchUp for 3D modeling and Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator for color renderings and graphic design. The course will focus on a year-long project to develop a Graphic Magazine utilizing design principles and multi-media graphics. Magazine “articles” will include projects in Sculptural Structures , Interior Design and Landscape Design.

DESIGN & DRAFTING IIA

Course Description

This class will focus on the phases of Residential Design for a custom Dream House. Students will continue to build on their knowledge of Architectural theory and focus on Modern Architectural styles. In Semester 1, students will progress through programming, preliminary sketching, AutoCAD floor plans & sections and physical model building. Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator will be used for color renderings and presentation graphics. In Semester 2 , students will learn the fundamentals of residential construction developing a detailed SketchUp model and a time-lapse animation video of construction from the ground up.

DESIGN & DRAFTING IIB

Course Description

This class will focus on the phases of Product Design for helpful objects and sculptural art. Students will focus on the Principles and Theory of Design. They will progress through programming, preliminary sketching and physical model building. Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator will be used for color renderings and presentation graphics. Students will refine their designs through a detailed SketchUp model in preparation for 3D printing.

CONCENTRATED STUDIES: DESIGN & DRAFTING

Course Description

This final class in the Architectural Design and Drafting Program will focus on the phases of planning and design for a “Green” (environmentally sustainable) Neighborhood Community. Students will solidify advanced concepts in Architectural theory and focus on Sustainable Architectural styles. Collaborating as a team, students will combine individual designs into a cohesive Green Neighborhood design. The course will provide a professional studio environment to help prepare students for a career in Architectural Design and Drafting fields.
