Hello DATA Families!

Welcome to the start of the 24-25 school year!  It’s already time to prepare for another wonderful year at DATA.  We are honored you chose to be part of our community and look forward to learning and growing with you this year.
We are committed to the success of every DATA student, but know we can’t do it alone.  We need the support and participation of our parents, families, and students.  When we work together, we create a comprehensive educational experience that enriches each student’s academic and social-emotional growth.  Here is some helpful information to help you prepare for the upcoming school year.

Registration

A separate email with registration information will be sent out this week (new families will receive different information than those returning).  Keep an eye out for this email.  Students cannot begin school until all forms are filled out and registration is complete.

Jump Start Days
Each grade level has a designated morning for orientation before the first day of classes. We aim to help students familiarize themselves with one another, their teachers and the campus.  Students will also receive their schedule on this day, which runs from 9 to 11 am.  All students are required to attend Jump Start Day.  Parents are invited but not required to attend. Admin will host a brief meet and greet for parents on Monday and Tuesday (August 5th and 6th) from 8:30 to 9 am.
Jump Start Schedule:
Friday, August 2nd – Juniors/Seniors.  Meet at 9 am at Johnson Field, (UNM, 2401 Redondo Dr NE). Bring water, lunch money or a sack lunch.
Monday, August 5th  – Freshman/Sophomores (at DATA)

Tuesday August 6th – 7th/8th grades (at DATA)

First Day of School and Daily Schedule
  • Our yearly calendar and daily schedule is now on the homepage of our website:  www.datacharter.org
  • Wednesday, August 7th is our first day of school.  School dismisses at 12:15 on this day.
  • School begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Wednesday is early Dismissal at 12:15 pm. Students may be invited to attend teacher office hours from 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm if they need extra support in their classes.
School Supply List

Our general school supply list is here:  24-25 School Supply List.docx

Drop off/Pick up Procedures
  • The school building is accessible to students beginning at 7:40 am.  If you drop students off before this, they will be asked to wait outside the building until 7:40 am.  All students should be dropped off at the front of the school.
  • Pick-up for grades 7-9 occurs at the BACK (North) side of the building. You can access this area by going straight along the east side of the building.
  • Pick-up for grades 10-12 occurs at the front of the building.
  • Gates are opened at 3:00 pm on M/Tu/Th/Fri and 12 pm on Wednesdays.
  • If you have students in multiple grades, simply coordinate one pick-up location. Please limit speed and be mindful of pedestrians and vehicles.
  • We will have staff outside for the first few weeks to assist families during after-school pick-up.
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal

Students arriving late must sign in and obtain a tardy pass from the front desk.  ALL students who need to leave early MUST have parental permission, regardless of age.  Parents picking up their child early must come inside the building to sign out their child and present identification to the front staff.  Students who drive themselves need parental permission to leave early, even if they are 18 years old.  Parents of student drivers/18+ students, please email attendance@datacharter.org to permit for your child to leave school early (we cannot accept parent text messages shown to us by students).

Lunch
  • We will continue to contract through Rhubarb and Elliot for lunch.  You may create an account with Rhubarb and Elliot, and order/pay for lunches here:  https://www.rhubarbandelliott.com/data
  • Only CLASSIFIED Seniors (18 credits or more) may leave campus at lunch. We will be checking senior schedules during lunch. Schedules must have a senior status/designation (“grade 12”) on their schedule to leave.
  • To increase safety by limiting the number of people on campus, students are not allowed to order food from delivery services such as DoorDash or Grubhub.  Any food delivered during this time will be kept at the front office until dismissal.  Most students bring lunch from home or order from Rhubarb and Elliot. We have microwaves and filtered water dispensers around campus for student convenience and also sell small food items at the snack bar during lunch.
Parking Passes

Parking passes must be purchased from Ms. Gasca (security) within the first two weeks of school.  Passes are $20 for the year, cash only. Students will have one month to purchase passes (deadline September 7th) and will be fined if they do not have a pass after September 7th.  Students must present a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance and registration to purchase a pass.  Students and their parents/guardians must sign a parking agreement before receiving their pass:  Parking Agreement- 24-25.docx

Dress and Appearance
Students at DATA are encouraged to express themselves through what they wear.  However, they are also expected to show respect for others in what they wear and avoid unreasonable distractions to others based on their clothing.  No clothing that is offensive or promotes sex, alcohol, violence, drugs, prejudice, hate speech or uses profane language will be allowed at school.  The school administration reserves the right to determine if a student’s clothing violates this policy.  Students whose appearance is determined to violate this policy will be asked to change or, if available, given clothing to wear for the remainder of the day. Repeated offenses will result in a parent meeting with administration to determine consequences and future support.

Please reach out to us with questions or concerns.  We look forward to working with you this year!
